The One Fish Rarities: Shiny Fish, Values, Rarity Upgrade
How rarities work in The One Fish (Steam Early Access): shiny fish, the shop rarity upgrade, and measured fish values from 15 to 1500+ (checked Aug 14, 2026).
The One Fish has no official rarity table: developer re:try has not published a tier list for the Steam Early Access version that launched on August 12, 2026. What is confirmed so far is a working ladder of three levels — ordinary fish, rare fish, and shiny fish — plus two systems that sit on top of it: a shop rarity upgrade that raises your chance of pulling rarer fish, and a per-fish value range that launch-week players measured from 15 up to 1500+. Everything below is tagged to its source: official store text where re:try said it, player footage where launch-week streams showed it, and not yet confirmed wherever no source exists.
Version note: rarities, values and shop items on this page were checked on August 14, 2026 against the Early Access launch build; player-measured numbers can change with any patch.
How Rarities Work
The honest headline is that the official rarity system is not yet published. As of August 14, 2026, re:try has put out no rarity tier table, no tier names and no drop-rate numbers for the Early Access launch — not on the Steam store page, not in the Steam announcements feed, and not on the official X or YouTube channels. The store description names only two fish, the clownfish as the harmless example and the bomb fish as the explosive one, and it says nothing about rarity tiers.
That leaves launch-week player footage as the working evidence. What the streams consistently show is a practical ladder: ordinary catches, clearly rarer fish, and a shiny tier on top. The word rare is not just a fan label either — in launch-week footage the players call out a rare fish on screen when a shark appears (“That’s the goal?” / “A rare fish”), so rare is treated as a real distinction in play. No confirmed in-game screen spells out tier names yet, so treat the labels on this page as community shorthand, not official terms.
Below the ladder there is also the tier nobody wants: junk. Boots, shoes and hats can come up instead of a fish at all, seen in both launch streams, and whether those junk pulls even count as catches toward the day’s quota is not yet confirmed. That makes the practical order in Early Access: junk at the bottom, then ordinary fish, then rare fish, with shiny on top.
Shiny Fish
Shiny fish exist, and they are extremely rare. The proof is on camera: in the 3-player Portuguese launch stream, a player pulls in a catch and calls out a shiny — “I caught a shiny” — treating it as a super rare event. The same stream shows the prize that makes shiny worth chasing: the shiny fish drops a Luffy-style straw hat, a wearable trophy that was not seen dropping from ordinary catches.
What shiny actually does to your numbers is not yet confirmed. No official shiny rate is published anywhere, and the streams only show single shiny moments, not enough data to estimate odds from. The only safe statements are the ones above: shiny exists, it sits above the ordinary and rare tiers, and at least one confirmed shiny catch carried the straw hat. If you want to hunt one yourself, the players who caught it treated it as the highlight of the session — which tells you more about its rarity than any number that has been published so far.
The Rarity Upgrade
The one system players can point at inside the game is the shop. The 3-player Portuguese launch stream shows a rarity upgrade item for sale, described by the players as raising the chance of pulling rarer fish. The 4-player Turkish launch stream shows a companion option in the same shop, a Chance/Luck gamble that sits in the same odds corner of the game.
Buy the upgrade and your odds should shift toward the rare end — but by how much is not yet confirmed, because re:try has published no numbers for the upgrade’s effect and the streams show no before/after comparison. Until official odds appear, treat the rarity upgrade as a confirmed shop item with a confirmed direction (more rare fish) and an unknown magnitude.
Fish Values
Value is a separate dial from rarity. Launch-week players measured real per-fish values across the board: the 4-player Turkish launch stream shows catches worth 25, 35, 75, 150, 292, 500 and 1500 across the session, and across the two launch streams the measured range runs from a low of 15 up to 1500+. The typical high-value pulls in the Turkish stream were 500 and 1500 — the kind of numbers that come up on big catches, not on every line.
Two cautions come with those numbers. First, they are player-measured on the launch build: values are balance numbers and can change with any patch. Second, high value does not mean safe — the bomb fish is the standing reminder that an explosive catch can wipe the whole crew, whatever it sells for. For now, 15 to 1500+ is the honest confirmed range, and it is the reason rarity matters in practice: the rare end of the ladder is where the big paydays live, even though no official price sheet links a tier to a value yet.
What Is Still Unknown
Everything this page could not verify, as of August 14, 2026:
- The full official rarity table. re:try has published no tier list, no tier names and no total fish count; the ordinary → rare → shiny ladder is the player-observed shorthand.
- Official odds. The shiny rate and the rarity upgrade’s exact effect are not yet confirmed.
- A value table. Only the player-measured 15 to 1500+ range exists; per-fish price sheets have not been published.
- Whether junk pulls (boots, shoes, hats) count toward the feeding quota or score anything at all.
- Whether the Chance/Luck gamble in the shop stacks with the rarity upgrade, or replaces it.
- Whether rarity interacts with fish abilities — for example whether a shiny bomb fish is even more dangerous.
Steam announcements are the channel to watch. When re:try publishes a tier list or odds, this page will be re-checked and re-tagged.
