The One Fish Launch Day: Facts and First Patches
The One Fish launch day on August 12, 2026: the $7.19 Early Access launch price, the release announcement, HOTFIX 1, the Aug 13 patch notes, and reviews.
The One Fish launched on Steam in Early Access on August 12, 2026 for USD 7.19 — a 10% launch discount off the USD 7.99 base price — as a Windows-only release from developer re:try. The official announcement, THE ONE FISH IS OUT NOW!, went live the same day, a same-day HOTFIX 1 followed less than two hours later, and a Small Update landed on August 13. Two days in, the game held a Very Positive rating from 70 Steam reviews. Everything on this page was checked on August 14, 2026.
Version note: launch price, announcement contents and review totals on this page were verified on August 14, 2026 against the official Steam news feed, the Steam store page and the Steam review API; Early Access numbers can change with the next patch.
Launch Day Facts
The One Fish entered Early Access on August 12, 2026 on Windows. The store page describes a 1-6 player online co-op game built around one job: catch enough fish to feed The One Fish. Along the way, ability fish hit you or the whole crew, and Chill Mode offers low-pressure sessions. The launch price is USD 7.19, a 10% launch discount off the USD 7.99 base price — the normal price to budget against.
The official launch post, titled THE ONE FISH IS OUT NOW!, was published on August 12, 2026 at 17:14 UTC. Its message is short: “The game is out in Early Access! Thank you all for being here and caring about our game! Please leave any feedback or ideas you’d like to see as we move towards 1.0! Now, let’s get fishing!” The 1.0 framing confirms Early Access is a runway toward a full release. When 1.0 will arrive is not yet confirmed.
HOTFIX 1 (Launch Day)
HOTFIX 1 went up at 18:58 UTC on August 12, 2026 — one hour and forty-four minutes after the launch announcement, on launch day itself. The developer’s opening line set the pattern: “Thank you for sharing some early feedback with us. We wanted to address these issues ASAP!”
HOTFIX 1 contains three changes:
- Increased chance of events occurring during runs
- Push-to-talk microphone settings (disabling and enabling) now work properly
- Fixed fish sometimes disappearing from the ship basket
All three are day-one responses: the mic fix serves co-op voice chat, and a catch that vanishes from the ship basket is quota lost. Day-one feedback became a same-day patch, and that cadence continues below.
The Aug 13 Small Update
Titled “Small Update (8.13.26)”, the second patch went up on August 13, 2026 at 10:01 UTC — under seventeen hours after the launch post. It opens by thanking first-day feedback again and promises “more way more content and updates coming to the game very, very soon!” — with no dates attached, so what comes next is not yet confirmed.
The balance half of the patch, as listed by the developer:
- Special events now occur more often, and every other day in the run
- Shop frequency adjusted to every other day
- Hot zones buffed: higher rarity chances, more frequent bites, and a chance to pull up 2 fish at once
- Fishing on the ship now has a higher chance of catching junk, for difficulty balance
- Enemy spawns nerfed, and the maximum number of spawned enemies now scales with party size
- Slightly reduced rare and legendary chances on base luck; luck and strength upgrades nerfed slightly
- Reduced the urchin catch rate during the Urchin Infestation event
The bugfix half covers: fish physics acting strange, a Chill Mode inventory upgrade that only applied after reloading, some resolution errors, mines not exploding when triggered, player scaling not resetting after big or small mode, and camera scenarios inside the body. Read together, the two patches show a team tuning events, hot zones and spawn pressure while fixing launch-week bugs in public.
Patch Cadence: 3 Posts in 2 Days
Three official Steam news posts landed in the first two days — the launch announcement, HOTFIX 1, and the Aug 13 Small Update — and all three appeared within seventeen hours of each other. That is an unusually active rhythm for a small Early Access team, and a strong signal for anyone deciding whether to buy in: the developer is reading feedback and shipping fixes within hours, not weeks.
Practically, that means patch-sensitive details go stale fast — treat numbers quoted from launch-week posts as snapshots and check the official Steam news hub before trusting any balance claim. A burst of three posts does not guarantee daily patches forever. The next patch’s date and contents are not yet confirmed, and re:try has published no dated roadmap, only the promise of more content “very, very soon.”
Launch-Day Reception
Two days after launch, The One Fish sat at 70 Steam reviews: 56 positive and 14 negative, for a “Very Positive” rating (checked August 14, 2026). Positive reviews land on the co-op loop — one early review is literally “ONE FISH. Another friendslop hit.” — while even a recommending review lists collision physics and a locked camera as day-one pain points: exactly what the first two patches started targeting.
Players from several countries streamed real runs within hours of unlock — the fastest way to see launch-day gameplay rather than marketing footage. Two launch-window videos worth watching:
- 3-player Portuguese stream (launch week): the quota bar showed roughly 900-1000 points for three players and the crew hit the goal. The One Fish arrives at day’s end and sucks up the deposited catch; one pull yanked players standing on the island. The crew died while learning to spam-click the reel instead of holding, and their shop run included a rarity upgrade, up to 8 carry slots, Super Bait (nicknamed “Master Bait”), a single-use buoy, flying boots, landmines and cosmetic hats; camera glitches also showed up in this session.
- 4-player Turkish crew (launch day, played through day 10): pressing the ship’s steering wheel starts the day and the timer begins immediately. Their day-1 quota was 175 for four players and the crew finished around 1175, with the surplus counting as money. They starved repeatedly until they learned to eat raw fish, watched a bag item jump from 100 to 200 money after one purchase, and reached day 10, which they called “the maximum” so far.
What the first two days show: a functional co-op loop, an active patch cadence, and rough edges — mostly physics and camera — that the developer is visibly working through.
